In light of the prevailing situation (invasion of Ukraine), it will not be possible to celebrate this year’s European Maya Conference, which was scheduled to be held in Moscow, as initially envisioned. The Wayeb Board, together with the Wayeb Conference Board, is presently exploring alternate venues and approaching potential candidates. We will announce the new location and dates for this year’s EMC as soon as possible.
Wayeb is not a political organization, but is an academically oriented non-profit association that promotes Maya and Mesoamerican Studies in Europe. As such, Wayeb condemns war and embraces peace. Likewise, we stand together in support of the victims of the war. We aim to transcend this conflict, maintaining dialogue and collaborative research as an international association of scholars and researchers. We extend our solidarity to our colleagues, irrespective of their nationality, and especially those affected by the war.
